Dr. Miller is a professor of biology at Brown University and has written extensively on the subject of evolution and science. His lecture will focus on the public debate in evolution, science and religion. He is the author of the book, Finding Darwin’s God: A Scientist’s Search for Common Ground Between God and Evolution, and was an expert witness in the Dover, Pa., court case on whether intelligent design was a religious belief or a scientific concept.
A reception will follow the lecture in Café G in the Williams Center. Sponsors of the event include the Convocation Committee, the Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Dean of the College of Natural and Social Sciences, the Institute for Research in Science Teaching, and the Department of Biology.
The lecture is free and the public is invited to attend, but tickets are required and available from the SUNY Fredonia ticket office in the Williams Center. Overflow seating with a simulcast of Dr. Miller’s lecture will also be available in McEwen Hall Room 209 on campus.
The next event in the Convocation series is the Maytum Convocation Lecture on Wednesday, Nov. 7, to be presented by scientist, author and documentary filmmaker Dr. Spencer Wells, who will also be a Williams Distinguished Visiting Professor during his time at SUNY Fredonia.
