Fredonia State and Potsdam split their SUNYAC softball doubleheader Saturday at Blue Devil Field. The Blue Devils won the opener, 3-2, while the Bears bounced back to win the second game, 4-0.

Kelsey Gannett (Jr.; Endwell, N.Y.) pitched both games for the Blue Devils, who fell to 5-10 overall and 2-4 in the SUNYAC following their loss in the second game. Potsdam improved to 1-11 overall and 1-1 in the SUNYAC heading into a doubleheader Sunday at Buffalo State.

Gannett flipped a five-hitter with 12 strikeouts in Game 1. She followed that with a complete-game five hitter with seven strikeouts in Game 2. Three of the four runs she allowed in the second game were unearned.

Defensive breakdowns was the story of both games. A two-out Potsdam error preceded a two-run double by Kim Lotocki (Soph.; Hamburg, N.Y.) as part of Fredonia State's three-run second inning in the first game. Lotocki finished with three hits off losing pitcher Megan Johnson. Jordan Ott accounted for both Potsdam runs with a two-run double.

In the second game, Potsdam scored an unearned run in the first inning and plated two more runs around three Blue Devil errors in the third inning. Kelly Becker added a solo homer. Megan Briner tossed a six-hit shutout.

Cherise Gunnell (Jr.; Falconer, N.Y.) and Lindsey Forness (Soph.; Allegany, N.Y.) connected for doubles.

Next up for Fredonia State is a non-conference doubleheader at Medaille.
