“Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day”
SUNY Fredonia's Office of Student Affairs and Employee Assistance Program (EAP) have joined together to bring the national "Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day" to campus on Thursday, April 22. This year's national theme is "1 Youth, 1 Dream, 2Morrow's Leader."
Children ages 7-16 are invited to shadow their parent during the morning hours, and then join in special activities after a luncheon. SUNY Fredonia has participated in Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day since 1994.
The deadline to register is Monday, April 19. Registration is required to attend lunch. Upon pre-registration, confirmation and a letter for the child’s principal excusing the child from school will be sent.
The event will begin with registration starting at 10:30 a.m. in Dods Hall. The Teacher Education Club will be doing arts and crafts with the children. T-shirts to wear for the day will be distributed to all the registrants. At 11 a.m., the student Leadership Club will host games followed by a pizza party lunch sponsored by Vice President for Administration Tracy Bennett at noon in the Williams Center.
The fun continues with a choice between a demonstration on proper hand-washing by the Health Center or a tour of the campus by the Admission office. The tour includes a walk-through of the residence halls, Reed Library and the University Police offices.
From 2-3 p.m. the children can choose from a workshop on how to “turn your dreams into a reality” offered by the Career Development Office, or a seminar from Center for Multicultural Affairs about living together differently.
Closing statements, information about Earth Day, and the distribution of goodie bags for all the participants will conclude the day in the Williams Center at 3 p.m.
Additional sponsorship has been provided by University Advancement, Alumni Affairs, Residence Life, Vice President of Administration, and Student Affairs.
For more information and to pre-register for the event, please contact Kayla Fraser, Student Affairs intern or Monica White, associate vice president for Student Affairs.
