The Henry C. Youngerman Center for Communication Disorders at Fredonia is resuming support group meetings for stroke and head injury survivors and family members. Sessions will be held on the first and third Tuesdays of the month at 3 p.m. in Thompson Hall Room E148. The first meeting of the fall semester will be Sept. 16.
A typical group meeting includes activities to help stroke and head injury survivors use compensatory strategies to improve communication skills, distribution of educational information and opportunities to socialize and share experiences. Light refreshments will be provided. There is no fee to attend the sessions that are led by Julie Williams, coordinator of the Youngerman Center, and graduate students enrolled in the Communication Disorders and Sciences program.
Stroke/head injury support group meetings will continue in Thompson Hall Room E148 at 3 p.m. on Oct. 7, Oct. 21, Nov. 4, Nov. 18 and Dec. 2.
The Youngerman Center recognizes that there are individuals in the community whose insurance benefit for therapy has been exhausted but their hopes for improvement have not. For more information about attending the group, contact Ms. Williams, coordinator, at 716-673-4618.
