Films created by three current students and two recent graduates in Visual Arts and New Media were chosen as official selections at the seventh annual SUNYWide Film Festival to be held Friday and Saturday, April 8 and 9, at SUNY Oswego. The filmmakers include:
Kyra Slawski, a 2015 graduate who had dual majors in Animation and Illustration, and Painting and Drawing, from Long Island, who created “Styx.” The film, entered in the festival’s animation category, was her Animation capstone project and was also shown at the B.F.A. Senior Show at the Marion Art Gallery in April 2015.
Alex Galbier, a senior majoring in Animation and Illustration from Bemus Point, who created “Off the Wall,” another animation entry, for ARTS 485 Advanced Animation.
Dakota Marquardt, a sophomore majoring in Animation and Illustration, from Rochester, N.Y., who created “Strings,” also in the animation category, for ARTS 285 Introduction to Animation.
Zach Lyman, a junior majoring in Communication–Video Production, who created “Going No. 2,” in the fiction category, for COMM 254 Video Field Production.
Kyle Roof, a 2015 graduate who majored in Communication–Video Production from Dunkirk, who created “Mechanique,” in the experimental category, for ARTS 324 Special Effects for Experimental Video.
The festival, which was founded by Fredonia, attracted 190 submissions from 23 campuses. This year’s host, Oswego, had the most selections, six, while Fredonia had five, which included three of the seven animation selections. New Paltz, Purchase and Binghamton each had four selection. Overall, 35 films were christened official selections in four categories.
The films will be screened during the festival and are in competition for category prizes (First Place and Honorable Mention in each category) as well as the Grand Jury Prize.
