The Advanced Leadership Program at Fredonia will treat members of the Chautauqua Adult Day Care Center in Dunkirk to two days of enjoyable activities during the university’s Days of Service in early November to help foster a lasting relationship between campus groups and the local adult day care center.
Students participating are members of InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, Latinos Unidos, or enrolled in the Music Therapy program, and they will connect with seniors with a variety of fun-filled activities. Pumpkin painting, games such as cards, chess and checkers; dancing, exercising, crafts and creating memory pages are activities planned. There will also be a music therapy performance and presentation of memory pages, which include the client’s name, picture and words of wisdom or lessons learned that they wish to share.
Chiavetta’s Potatoes & Greenhouse in Angola is donating pumpkins for the event.
The leadership program conducts four service events, involving different agencies, each semester as part of the curriculum. More than two dozen students are expected to participate in the Chautauqua Adult Day Care Center program, which is housed at St. John’s United Church of Christ.
