Recently, SUNY Fredonia students undertook a five day volunteering event to help local organizations. The event was the third annual "service trip" sponsored by Strive Ministries, a student group that is part of the Intervarsity Christian Fellowship.

“We want to give back to the Fredonia and Dunkirk community,” said Lindsay Rollins, volunteer at the event. “All of the volunteers wanted to thank the members of the community. We will do anything we can to help and show how much they are appreciated. It’s a great feeling knowing we’ve made a difference and it was a great time. We hope more students will come out and volunteer with us.”

Students were busy painting, cleaning, organizing and spending time with people and organizations who needed help.  Several teams of four or five visited various locations in the morning and afternoon. They went to Rural Ministries, Garment Gallery, Dunkirk First Baptist Church, Dunkirk Historical Museum, WCA Home, Boys and Girls Club, First United Methodist Church, Faith Baptist Church, Dunkirk-Fredonia Meals and Wheels, and more. After volunteering their time, they had the chance to bond and get to know one another.

The event received support from Walmart, Sams Club, P-Dubs, Harvest Chapel, Pizza Hut, Lucky Lanes and SUNY Fredonia.
