The Chautauqua County Walk to End Alzheimer's is being held at Point Gratiot Park in Dunkirk on Saturday, Sept. 12.

The walk is normally held in Jamestown and the Dunkirk location makes it more accessible for Fredonia students, faculty and staff, and community members. Student groups involved are Kappa Sigma, Sigma Kappa, Psychology Club, Psi Chi Honor Society in psychology and the Social Work Club. Walkers, fundraisers and sponsors are all needed. There also will be prizes and raffles during the event.

Registration begins at 9 a.m. with the opening ceremony at 10 a.m. and the walk beginning at 10:15 a.m. The event has a $10 registration fee, which is a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association. Interested persons can visit the Fredonia Team Page. From the link, people can (1) join the team as a walker/fundraiser; (2) donate to the TEAM fundraising goal, and/or (3) find individual team members' fundraising page.

As the U.S. population continues to age, more and more resources are needed to assist research progress on slowing or curing Alzheimer’s. The Alzheimer's Association is a leading partner in the fight to end Alzheimer's and alleviate the suffering of patients and their supportive caregivers and loved ones. The Alzheimer's Association also runs local programs such as a caregiver support group held monthly at Fredonia Place.
