Local television coverage of Commencement 2009 at the State University of New York at Fredonia will begin at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 16, with coverage of both ceremonies combining undergraduate and master’s and advanced certificate graduates. Approximately 1,300 bachelor’s and master’s degrees, as well as advanced certificates, will be conferred upon candidates during the two ceremonies.
Viewers can watch the broadcast on Time Warner Cable Channel 5 in Fredonia, Cassadaga, Brocton and Stockton, and Time Warner Cable Channel 19 in Dunkirk, Silver Creek, Forestville and Hanover.
The keynote speaker for both Commencement ceremonies this year is New York State Senator Catharine Young (57th District).
Senior Class President Patrick G. Horn of Henrietta, N.Y., will speak at both ceremonies, and the Lanford Presidential Prize from the Oscar and Esther Lanford Endowment of the Fredonia College Foundation will be awarded to Kathleen M. Hite of Lakewood, N.Y., during the morning ceremony. Ms. Hite will receive her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, Summa Cum Laude.
Music groups performing include the Fredonia Wind Ensemble and Fredonia Wind Symphony, under the direction of Dr. Paula Holcomb and Raymond Stewart, respectively, and the Fredonia Chamber Singers under the direction of Dr. Donald P. Lang.
