Less than three months into the presidency of Donald Trump, Dr. Eileen Boris of the University of California at Santa Barbara will give the talk, “Trump’s America in Historical Perspective: The War Against Women, the Fight Against Unions and Assault Against Mexicans, African Americans and Muslims” on Wednesday, March 29, 6 p.m., in Williams Center Room S204-ABC.
The presentation by Dr. Boris frames President Trump as a unique personality and politician and asks the question of whether his signature positions are an aberration in U.S. history. It will historicize current Issues, such as what has been described as the “war on women,” as well as nativism, deportation politics, battle against organized labor and threats against civil liberties, civil rights, free speech and voting rights.
Boris, who holds the title of Hull Professor, is a member of the Department of Feminist Studies at UC Santa Barbara and teaches courses in labor studies, gender, race, class, women’s history and social politics.
The talk, sponsored by Interdisciplinary Studies, the Department of History, Fredonia as Public Square and the All IN Campus Democracy Challenge, is free and open to the public.
