Associate Professor of English Emily E. VanDette will give a lecture at "The Trouble Begins at Eight" series, hosted by Elmira College's Center for Mark Twain Studies, on Wednesday, Oct. 4, 7 p.m., in Cowles Hall.
Dr. VanDette’s talk, “’That heart-breaking bitch’: Aileen Mavourneen & the Transatlantic Anti-Vivisection Movement,” draws on research from her July residency at Quarry Farm, the Elmira summer home where Twain wrote several of his masterpieces. VanDette's lecture and research residency are also related to her current work in progress, a monograph that explores the literature of the early animal welfare movement in the United States.
More information on the series and VanDette is available online.
