Department of English Associate Professor Iclal Vanwesenbeeck has published the first Turkish translation of a short story, “Bodies,” from Phil Klay’s 2014 National Book Award-winning “Redeployment,” a collection of 12 short stories that chronicle the experiences of U.S. soldiers in the Iraq War and their difficulties adjusting to life back home.

Mr. Klay served as a U.S. Marine Corps public affairs officer in Iraq’s Anbar province during the surge in 2007 and 2008. He has an undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College and M.F.A in Creative Writing from Hunter College.

The translation came out of Vanwesenbeeck’s ongoing research on veteran’s literature and war literature. Her teaching and research interests at Fredonia are in early modern literature.
