The rain was no match for the camaraderie. The chilly temperatures were outdone by the feeling of service to the community. That’s how the less-than-ideal conditions were met by hundreds of Fredonia students who stepped off campus and into a powerful volunteer project.

The 12th Fall Sweep was organized by the student-run Applied Communication Association (ACA). The morning started with breakfast in the Williams Center Multi-Purpose Room.  Students heard from several speakers, including Fredonia Mayor Athanasia Landis. Baskets that were donated by various students clubs and organizations were raffled off to lucky student winners.

Approximately 800 students then headed out into the Fredonia community, rakes in hand, to clean up lawns for residents who asked for assistance. Students focused on lawns along Temple Street, Central Avenue and a few smaller side streets.

The Fall Sweep is a joint project by the ACA, the Office of Volunteer and Community Service, and the Public Relations Student Society of America's Fredonia chapter. Fall Sweep is held in conjunction with Days of Service, a week-long event that combines volunteer efforts and service-learning projects are various locations throughout the community.
