The Fredonia Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Paula Holcomb, will open the 2017-2018 academic year with diverse repertoire, from tangos to songs to story-telling, at a concert on Saturday, Oct. 14, 8 p.m., in King Concert Hall.
Works to be performed include "Spiel für Blasorchester," by Ernst Toch; "Tango," by Fukuda and "Shepherd’s Hey," by Percy Grainger. The performance will also conclude with David Maslanka's "Child's Garden of Dreams,” an epic work for winds. The composer’s inspiration is based on Carl Jung’s book, "Man and His Symbols,” in which Jung tells of an extraordinary booklet that was given as a Christmas present to a psychiatrist friend by his 10-year-old daughter.
The concert is free and open to the public.
