In December 2016, the Board of Regents of the New York State Education Department (NYSED) adopted the New York State P-12 Science Learning Standards, based on the Next Generation Science Standards and the National Research Council's 2011 publication A Framework for K-12 Science Education: Practices, Crosscutting Concepts, and Core Ideas. These learning standards took effect on July 1, 2017.
