Andean Journeys – Study Abroad in Ecuador

Course Number:  INED 399/ HIST 398 / LANG 400: Andean Journeys

Course Description: Andean Journeys is an exploration of Latin America's historical and cultural diversity. Through an Ecuadorian microcosm students learn of the region's pre-Columbian past, its colonial legacies of racial hierarchy and transculturation, twentieth-century industrialization, and its competing Western and indigenous national identities. Over the course of three weeks students divide their time between the Pacific port of Guayaquil, the indigenous highlands of Quito and Cuenca, and the Ecuadorian Amazon. Along the way, course design allows participants amble opportunity for meaningful engagement with Ecuadorian students, professionals and indigenous peoples.
