Elizabeth "Kris" (Walton) Beal, age 88, of Fredonia, N.Y., died Dec. 12, 2012, at the TLC/HN Health Care Facility in Irving, N.Y. She was a former "First Lady" of SUNY Fredonia, married to Dr. Dallas K. Beal who was president from 1971 to 1985. A native of Columbus, Ohio, Mrs. Beal attended public elementary school and the progressive Campus School of Ohio State University for seventh through twelfth grade. She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from Ohio State University, later teaching elementary methods courses in its art department. She also taught elementary school and was an elementary counselor.

An accomplished watercolorist and teacher, Mrs. Beal’s work was exhibited several times, most recently in a solo show in October 2010 at SUNY Fredonia’s Michael C. Rockefeller Arts Center Art Gallery. She was also the proprietor of Milk House Antiques in Forestville, N.Y., for 10 years.

Memorial gifts can be made through the Fredonia College Foundation to the Jessica Mary Beal Scholarship, the Dallas K. and Elizabeth W. Beal Award or the Dallas K. Beal Community Access Fund.
