She also served on the Lancaster School Board of Education for 20 years as a member, vice president and president, and helped to establish the town of Lancaster’s Meals on Wheels program, serving as its chair for the first six years.

Dr. Marjorie Dobbin, ’75, (English) proudly announces that her first novel, an inspiration romance, In The Shadow of Pickle Peak, was released in September 2006 by Publish America. She taught at Emmanuel College in the 1980s while working on her Ph.D. at the University of Georgia in medieval English literature. She later taught at Brewton-Parker College in Mt. Vernon, Ga., until her retirement in 2001. Marjorie lives with her husband, A.B. Albritton, in Vidalia, Ga.

Professor Emeritus Dan Berggren shares that Marta formerly worked at WGBH-FM in Boston, Mass. before going to divinity school. After interning and part-time ministering, her first sermon in her first church in New Orleans was to have been the weekend Hurricane Katrina hit. She lost her belongings, the church was flooded and the congregation was scattered. This year, she was asked by the Unitarian Universalist Association to write a prayer for the Thanksgiving season, and those interested can find it online at

Mark adds that both of his fields of study at Fredonia “have proved useful in my position,” as he assesses applications from people wishing to remain permanently in Canada.
