World in a JarThe trauma caused by war will be explored when the art gallery at the State University of New York at Fredonia hosts “Images of War” featuring “World in a Jar” by Robert Hirsch.

The exhibit will open on Friday, Feb. 5 with a reception in the art gallery lobby from 7 to 9 p.m. The gallery is located on the main level of the Michael C. Rockefeller Arts Center. The reception and the exhibit are free and open to the public.

Art Gallery Director Tina Hastings explained that “Images of War” is an installation and large print exhibit created by Robert Hirsch, an artist and educator from Buffalo.

“The work is timely as it explores issues that are at the center of so many current discussions and I feel it provides a chance for reflection on our own experiences, memories and beliefs about traumatic events both recent and throughout history,” Hastings said. “I encourage faculty to utilize the exhibit for classroom discussions.”

Hastings expressed her thanks to the Burchfield Penney Arts Center for the loan of the installation, which is now part of its permanent collection.

The exhibit runs through Feb. 26. Gallery hours are 2 to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 2 to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday.
