Brooke Strawder, a senior Business Administration major from Gowanda, was chosen Student of the Month for November 2021 by the Office of Residence Life.
She was nominated by Erin Mroczka, recently appointed as interim associate vice president for Retention and Academic Success, who supervised Ms. Strawder during her service as a Jump Start transition mentor and New Student Orientation leader.
Strawder holds a 3.9 GPA and is very active on campus. She currently serves as president of the Transfer Student Organization (TSO), secretary of Tau Sigma Honor Society (transfer student honor society), a transfer mentor (providing one-to-one peer support for fellow transfers) and a New Student Orientation leader.

“She has worked tirelessly in the past year to improve the transition experience for new transfer students to Fredonia and help them succeed,” Ms. Mroczka said. “In particular, she has planned and led the past two successful National Transfer Student Weeks on campus, hosting events like transfer tabling, and transfer pathway appointments and partnering with the Career Development Office to provide transfers with resources they need.”
Strawder has assisted with social events as bingo and jeopardy and a fall transfer mingle in partnership with Tau Sigma. She has also organized community service opportunities for TSO and Tau Sigma members that include a chow drive, Relay for Life and community mentoring to local schools. Stawder is a standout student among her peers.
When asked her favorite things about Fredonia, Strawder stated, “[My] favorite thing about Fredonia is all of the opportunities here. In my last two years I've been really fortunate to connect with amazing leaders and mentors through Fredonia's programs. There’s countless networking opportunities on this campus and in the community that have helped me build relationships that I believe will last long after graduation.”
Strawder, whose goal is to finish her degree in the Spring semester, plans to pursue an MBA with the intent to work in the human resource management field.
The Student of the Month program was implemented in 2003 to recognize students who are well-rounded, excel in their academics and contribute positively to the campus and community.
