The Fredonia State softball team put up 22 runs in a double header sweep of Potsdam and clinched the No. 5 seed in the SUNYAC Tournament on Saturday. Nicole Kumro was a perfect 6-6 with six doubles in the sweep.

Game 1
Emily Chelius held the Bears to two hits in a run-shortened, 11-0 win. She was also 2-3 with two runs and two RBI at the plate. Kumro was 3-3 with three doubles and Alyssa Piniewski drove in three runs.

Game 2
The Devils found themselves trailing after 3 1/2 innings. The Devils scored one run in the second inning before Potsdam took the lead with three runs in the top of the fourth.

That rally appeared to wake up the Fredonia State offense, as they posted five runs in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead.

Kumro and Chelius doubled to lead off the inning. Megan Guidry tripled to tie the game. Alexis Wulf then doubled for the fourth-straight extra base hit. Allie Wandell and Amber Piniewski double later in the inning to account for the five runs.

Kumro led off the fifth inning with another double. The inning and game would eventually end when Amber Piniewski hit a two-run double to mercy rule the Bears.

Erin Cunningham earned the win, going 1 1/3 innings of shutout relief.

Chelius would go 5-6 in the double header.

The Devils finish the SUNYAC season at 9-9 and in fifth place. The conference tournament will be hosted by regular-season champion Geneseo. Fredonia State is slated to take on Cortland in the First Round. The two teams split their regular-season games.

The team also honored its six seniors in their final home game. Maria Caviris, Alyssa Piniewski, Amber Piniewski, Maris Saltana, Guidry, Melanie Gleason, and Nicole Kumro.
