Dr. Remi Adelaiye-Ogal
SUNY Fredonia alumna and scientist Dr. Remi Adelaiye-Ogala will present a guest lecture on Friday, Oct. 18.
Her lecture, “Navigating Academic and Career Development Trajectory in Genitourinary Cancer Research: My pathways to progress, innovation, and impact,” is slated for 3 p.m. in the Kelly Family Auditorium (Science Center Room 105) and will be followed by a reception. The lecture is free and the public is invited to attend.
Dr. Adelaiye-Ogala is currently an assistant professor in the Department of Medicine at the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the State University at Buffalo. She graduated from SUNY Fredonia in 2009, majoring in Biochemistry, and earned her Ph.D. from the University at Buffalo, Roswell Park Cancer Institute.
Her message will be that navigating a career path can be daunting, but with the right mentorship, self-motivation, determination, and courage, individuals can achieve a successful academic and career path.
Dr. Adelaiye-Ogala came to SUNY Fredonia as an international student from Nigeria in the spring of 2007, and noted that her early exposure to basic research as an undergraduate student researcher and the potential impact on public health influenced her desire to seek the path of a health-related research field where her work would directly and positively impact the clinical outcome. Her research focuses on investigating mechanistic determinants of therapeutic resistance in genitourinary cancers and developing optimal therapeutic strategies for durable clinical outcomes.
Dr. Adelaiye-Ogala’s talk will highlight a little bit about her research in cancer biology, and, most importantly, her journey from an undergraduate SUNY Fredonia student to an assistant professor of medicine.
