Fredonia State men's track and field team traveled to Brockport for the SUNYAC Indoor Track and Field Championships. During the two days, eight athletes would compete in nine different events. It was the last step before sending off Josh Walters (800m), Nick Abdo (200m and 400m), Toby Onuoha (triple jump and high jump), and the relay team of Griffin Dombroske, Onuoha, Abdo and Walters (4x400 relay) to regionals.
Onuoha would start of the first day of events with an amazing performance, in the triple jump. He reached a distance of 13.69m, which was enough to qualify him for regionals. He already had a qualifying distance earlier in the season, but doing so within the SUNYAC Championships gave him the second spot on the podium.
Dombroske also competed in the triple jump, reaching a distance of 13.10m and placing at No.6.
Abdo competed in both rounds of the 200m and 400m. For day one of the 400m, Abdo finished No. 7 overall with a time of 50.95, which qualified him for the next day's event. On Saturday, he was able to move up three position to No. 4, and improved to a time of 50.19. Both times would qualify him for regionals.
For day one of the 200m, Abdo finished No.7 overall with a time of 22.80. On day two, he finished in the same No.7 position, but fell to a time of 22.90. Both times would qualify for regionals.
Walters would also compete in a two day event, the 800m. On day one, he placed No. 5 overall with a time of 1:56.72, which qualified him for the next day. On day two, he fell two positions to No. 7 after bringing in a time of 1:56.99. Both times would qualify him for regionals.
On day one of the meet, Dombroske, Sembel Koshi, Patrick Klinger, and Jared Hecht competed as a team in the Distance Medley. As a group they were able to finish No. 3, with a time of 10:49.50. The time gave them a spot on the podium.
Ted Tomasello finished off the first day's events with the 5000m. He finished No.18 overall with a time of 16:21.74.
Hecht would competed in the Men's Mile, on the second day. He ultimately finished the race at No.16, with a final time of 4:42.72.
On day two of the meet; Walters, Dombroske, Onuoha, and Abdo competed as a team in the 4x400 relay. Unfortunately, they were unable to complete the race and ended with a DNF.
To end off the SUNYAC Championships, Fredonia State had one athlete compete in the high jump. Onuoha finoshed No. 5 overall with a height of 1.85m.
With an excellent SUNYAC performance, we look forward to see what the exceptional athletes can achieve in regionals.
