 Letter from Co-Chair Kathy Dyckes:

As we begin the 2009 SEFA campaign providing you with the annual opportunity to help many organizations that provide assistance to others, the committee would like to share the following information.

As in the past we will be sending out a Donor Thank You List to say a public “Thank You” to employees who give to the SEFA campaign. No dollar amounts or giving levels will be indicated-just an alphabetical listing of individuals contributing. If for any reason you do not wish to have your name included on the published list, please enclose a note stating that with your pledge form or contact the Human Resources office (3434) and we will list you as “anonymous”.

Again this year you will be able to watch the thermometer rise as your contributions are recorded on the SUNY Fredonia SEFA website. The website has a lot of information and a link to the 2009 Directory of Participating Agencies so that you may now view the agencies available for contributions online if that is your choice. Please visit the SEFA website -https://www.fredonia.edu/about/offices/state-employee-federated-appeal/

Remember to complete and keep the employee portion of the pledge form. Your portion of the form with the designations completed and the final paystub from the year is the payroll deduction information needed for tax deduction recordkeeping for the IRS.

The SEFA “Thank You” drawing will be held on December 2, 2009. Friday, November 20th is the deadline for the pledge forms to be submitted with the Human Resources office. You will also be entered in the Northern Chautauqua County United Way Thank You drawing in January.

Your contributions benefit a wide variety of agencies which assist others and help change lives. We hope you will join us in generously donating this year.

Full participation by SUNY Fredonia faculty and staff is being sought for this year's SEFA campaign, the state employees’ federated appeal for community services.

SEFA is the single combined campaign for employees of New York State, providing funds year-round to support health and human service agencies who aid people of all ages and backgrounds in our region and statewide. They work injunction with the United Way Foundation, aiding those in need.

Kathy Dyckes, the co-chair of the campaign, said the committee has set a goal of $45,000 for this year's SEFA Campaign at SUNY Fredonia. That goal can be meet, she said, with full participation by the SUNY Fredonia faculty and staff. Donations can be made by payroll deductions, cash or check. There is a solicitor in almost every department on campus to take donations. Donations can go directly to an agency or it will be spread among the different agencies that most need it.

SEFA helps people like Sharon Gavitt, Reference Librarian at the New York State Library. "I'm grateful for Community Maternity Services in Albany, a SEFA-supported agency, for their financial and emotional guidance during a time when I was young, single and pregnant. They were a haven of help when I was feeling overwhelmed and alone," she said.
