Teresa Buchner, a senior from Niagara Falls, N.Y., has been named Student of the Month for September by the Office of Residence Life.
Dr. Susan McNamara of the School of Business nominated Teresa, who noted, “from students who interact with her as a RA, I hear stories of her willingness to help them with resumes, school work and integrating into Fredonia. If there is a need for a volunteer, Teresa is there.”
Teresa majors in Childhood Inclusive Education, Middle School Extension in English Grades 7-9. She is a long-term member of Enactus and has been in an Honors Leadership class taught by Dr. McNamara, who added, “As a member of Enactus she led the project with Girl Scouts which consisted of three events and relationship management with its leaders. She now leads our mentoring program with Dunkirk High School. What stands out is her inclusive approach to younger students or students new to the group. She supports them through their logistics, as well as making them welcome as a team member.”
When asked her favorite things about Fredonia, Teresa said, “One of my favorite things about Fredonia is the campus community! Even if it’s someone you only know from class, everyone says hello to each other in passing and it’s just a great feeling. I came from a very small school compared to a lot of other students here and it was important to me that wherever I went for college had the same small size and friendly atmosphere. I love how many opportunities I’ve been given to be involved on campus and I’m happy to call Fredonia my second home."

Teresa’s goals include graduating this spring and being able to walk the stage with her best friends. She also plans on going to graduate school at Fredonia and hopes to one day teach a fourth or fifth grade class.
The Student of the Month program was implemented in 2003 to recognize students who are well-rounded, excel in their academics, and contribute positively to the campus and community.
