BECC Electric of Dunkirk, N.Y., was named Monday as the 2007 Contractor of the Year at the Eighth SUNY Fredonia Contractors Recognition Luncheon held at the Cranston Marchè.
Vice President for Administration Tracy Bennett noted the annual event is a tradition in recognizing and thanking contractors for their outstanding work on the SUNY Fredonia campus and the “skill and professionalism that contractors bring to jobs.” Representatives from 58 firms were introduced during the event.
In his remarks, Vice President Bennett added that 2007 was a record year of construction for SUNY Fredonia, with over 139 different contractors including 122 from Western New York and 56 from Chautauqua County completed projects exceeding $20 million during 2007.
The Contractor of the Year award is presented to the firm contributing to the quality of life on campus, and for its professionalism, overall performance, ability to deliver within the estimated time and budget, and ability to adapt to changes. Vice President Bennett noted that BECC Electric had worked on campus projects for a number of years and demonstrated a commitment to quality, complete ownership of projects, and an outstanding relationship with campus personnel.
BECC President and CEO Phil Binkiwitz accepted the awards plaque from Vice President Bennett and SUNY Fredonia Assistant Director for Facilities Management Robert Lawson and Maintenance Supervisor for Electrical and Mechanical James Schwerk. The company’s name will also be affixed to a plaque hung in the campus facilities Planning Office. Mr. Binkiwitz noted it was a “pleasure working with the staff,” and it is “amazing how many local contractors work on campus.” Also representing BECC were Brian DeJohn, project manager, and Joe Kucmierz, senior electrician.
Vice President Bennett also recognized previous Contractor of the Year recipients in attendance including Kideney Architects, P.C. (2005); Habiterra Design Group (2004); Concept Construction Corp. (2002), and the first recipient of the award in 2001, Wendel Deuscherer Architects and Engineers.
