SUNY Fredonia alumnus Dr. Jeffrey DuBois will give a Biology Seminar on Friday, April 16 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in Jewett 101.  DuBois, the Vice President of Medical and Scientific Affairs at the Nova Biomedical Corporation in Waltham, Mass., will speak about his work with glucose testing and analysis, as well as his career journey from Fredonia to Nova Biomedical.

DuBois has been with Nova Biomedical for the past ten years. He is a native of Jamestown, N.Y.
 
DuBois holds several patents and has published more than 100 articles. He received a BS (1969) and MS in Biology and Chemistry from SUNY Fredonia, a PhD in physiology and biochemistry from St. Bonaventure University and MBA from Northwestern University. He received his clinical training at the National Naval Medical School and the NIH, Bethesda, Md.
 
Prior to joining Nova Biomedical, DuBois was the Executive Director for Laboratory Services at University Hospital Health System in Cleveland, Oh., a staff clinical pathologist and biochemist at University Hospitals of Cleveland, and Associate Professor in the  Department of Pathology at the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.
 
Previously, he also served as the Chairman and CEO of PrismaSystems Corporation, an IVD company that he founded.
 
Additionally, DuBois served as the chair of the NCCLS Point of Care Testing (POCT) Connectivity Standard Committee, going on to found and serve as the chair for the NCCLS Area Committee for POCT. NCCLS is now the Clinical Laboratory and Standards Institute (CLSI).
 
DuBois often speaks on topics related to laboratory diagnostics and chronic diseases such as diabetes, connectivity, Point of Care Testing, the processes involved in medical device product development, and the global trend to outsourcing of medical device manufacturing.
 
He is a member of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, American Association of Clinical Chemistry, American Diabetes Association, American Association of Diabetes Educators, Association for Lab Automation, Society of Critical Care Medicine, Society for Hospital Medicine, European Association for the Study of Diabetes, The Endocrinology Society. DuBois also serves as an advisor to the Area Committee for Point of Care Testing of the Clinical Laboratory and Standards Institute.
