New York Governor David A. Paterson has appointed former Fredonia Mayor and entrepreneur Frank A. Pagano to the SUNY Fredonia College Council. His seven-year appointment is effective immediately and will conclude in 2016.

“I’m honored that Governor Paterson has selected me to serve on the SUNY Fredonia College Council,” said Mr. Pagano. “I have worked closely with the college for over 20 years, both as a business leader and as mayor of the Village of Fredonia. I look forward to continuing that relationship as well as working with the other members of the council over the next several years.”

From 1970 to 1998, Mr. Pagano was the President of MPJ Enterprises, a real estate development and management company. MPJ invested in historic commercial and residential properties which had the potential to add to the vitality of downtown Fredonia through their revitalization.

Mr. Pagano also served as mayor from 1995 to 2007, winning three consecutive elections. In 2006, the Village of Fredonia was chosen by Buffalo’s weekly business newspaper, Business First, as the “Best Community in Western New York.” He also served a one-year term as the President of the New York State Conference of Mayors, during which he led an advocacy effort that resulted in a 20 percent increase in revenue sharing among local municipalities.

Mr. Pagano, a Fredonia resident, joins nine other council members including Chairperson JoAnn Niebel of Dunkirk, N.Y., Cynthia A. Ahlstrom of Dunkirk, N.Y., Angelo Bennice of Dunkirk, N.Y., Russell Diethrick of Jamestown, N.Y., Robert Heichberger of Gowanda, N.Y., Ann Manly of Fredonia, N.Y., Michael Sullivan of Fredonia, N.Y., and Carla Westerlund of Greenhurst, N.Y. Anthony Faraco, Jr., a junior political science major from West Seneca, N.Y., is the Student Association president and serves as the student representative.

The College Council meets quarterly on campus. Streaming video of each meeting is offered.
