Black History Month will be celebrated at Fredonia with events throughout the month.

The first week's theme is, "Exploration - Finding Self," with events including:

  • Sunday, Feb. 1: Black Tie Affair (Opening Ceremony) with a Red Carpet Event beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the Williams Center Multipurpose Room. A very limited number of tickets remain available and can be obtained at the Fredonia Ticket Office in the Williams Center.
  • Thursday, Feb. 5: Special General Body Meeting at 7 p.m. in Williams Center Room S204ABC. Students who wish to be involved with February's events and other activities are encouraged to attend.
Week two's theme, "Social Justice - What Is Your Cause?" will include the following events:
  • Wednesday, Feb. 11: Presentation by Tracy Martin at 7 p.m., King Concert Hall. Free.
  • Saturday, Feb. 14: Day of Service at l11 a.m. at the Chautauqua County Rural Ministry. Transportation may be provided, more details to follow.
Week three will focus on, "The Arts - Beautiful Inside and Out" with events including:
  • Monday, Feb. 16: Open Mic Night at 8:30 p.m. in The Spot, Tim Hortons, with special performances by Solomon Dixon and Team Finks of Living Poets Society. Free.
  • Thursday, Feb. 19: African Dance Workshop at 7:30 p.m., Dods Hall Room 148, instructed by the African American Cultural Center of Buffalo. Free.
  • Saturday, Feb. 21: Field Trip to Nash House Museum and Colored Musicians Club Museum. More information will be distributed. The field trip is free but does not cover lunch.

Week four will conclude the month's events with the theme, "Unveiling You!" including:

  • Monday, Feb. 23: Redefined Beauty: Great Blacks In Wax Museum, 5 p.m., Williams Center Multipurpose Room. Free. CANCELLED
  • Wednesday, Feb 25: Presentation by Dr. Treva Lindsey, 7 p.m., Williams Center Room S204 ABC. Free.
  • Friday, Feb 27: Masquerade Ball, 7:30 p.m., in the Williams Center Multipurpose Room. Tickets are free to students and the general public and are available at the Fredonia Ticket Office in the Williams Center.
The month's events are sponsored by the Student Association, Ethnic Studies program and the Black Student Union.
