On Friday, Oct. 22, the Fredonia for St. Jude Club will hold a fundraiser titled, "TEXT for a Cure," to benefit the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, an internationally acclaimed pediatric cancer research center in Memphis, Tenn.
A one-time, $5 donation will be made to St. Jude’s simply by texting the word, “HOPE” to 90999 between 12 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. that day.
After texting the word, "HOPE," donors will receive a message asking to confirm the donation, and to approve, reply "yes." Donors' cell phone bills will show an extra charge of $5 in that month's billing statement. Up to five texts, for a total of $25, can be sent.
Text for a Cure is a national campaign between St. Jude’s and participating universities, through which a different school chooses a unique word each day to text and donate. Fredonia for St. Jude was started in the spring of 2009 and raised over $10,000 for the hospital in its first year. This year the Fredonia organization increased its fundraising goal to $20,000.
Students, employees, alumni and friends are all encouraged to participate. To make an additional donation, visit www.stjude.org.
