198th U.S. Army Reserve Band, in conjunction with Pershing's Own, held a percussion competition in November. Several Fredonia students took part in the competition and one of the student ensembles won first place.

Members of the 198th will be at the African Drumming Concert on Friday, Dec. 5,at 8 p.m. in Rosch Recital Hall to present the award to the percussion quartet. The winning quartet played a modern mallet quartet, "Omphala Centric Lectures," by Nigel Westlake.
