On Friday, Oct. 29, the SUNY Fredonia men’s and women’s basketball teams will host their annual “Kids Night Out” event in Steele Hall Gym from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. as an opportunity for local families to meet and interact with members of the team while partaking in fun activities.
“Kids Night Out” features interactive attractions for children in grades first through sixth. The activities include football, soccer, kickball, swimming and of course — basketball. A bathing suit and towel are required for children wishing to swim and only those who know how to swim may enter the pool. A concession stand with pizza, candy and beverages will also be available for purchase.
Registration forms will be distributed to children enrolled at the Fredonia and Dunkirk elementary and middle schools. The completed registration form should be brought to the event this Friday at a cost of $10 per child (cash only). Parents may also register at the start of the event.
The “Kids Night Out” event was started in 2002 as a way for the players to become better connected with the community, and specifically the region’s youth. The event draws approximately 160 children yearly.
“Both the children and players enjoy this night.” said women’s basketball head coach Donna Wise. “The players get out and play with the kids, and they enjoy remembering what it’s like to be young. We look forward to it every year.”
All children must be picked up at Steele Hall by 9:30 p.m. No child will be allowed to leave until picked up by a parent or guardian.
