International Education Week 2014 will take place between Nov. 17 and 20, and will highlight Fredonia's "global citizens," as well as provide opportunities to enhance students' global awareness.
The Office of International Education, in conjunction with Campus Life, the Center for Multicultural Affairs, Residence Life, the Career Development Office, the Educational Development Program, and others on campus, will collaborate and host various programs throughout the week.
The U.S. Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs began International Education Week 15 years ago, and since its inception, it has spread to campuses across the country. It is hoped that the events will highlight the global citizens that make up the campus' students, faculty, and staff. The year's themes include gratitude and storytelling. Throughout the week, the Office of International Education will collect Fredonia stories of gratitude and global citizenship, and will present the stories in a luncheon on Thursday, Nov. 20 at 1 p.m. in the Horizon Room in the Williams Center. The luncheon is free and tickets are available at the Fredonia Ticket Office in the Williams Center and are required for admission.
Other highlights of the week include a Culture Fest and Zumba night, in collaboration with the Center for Multicultural Affairs. The event will feature clubs on campus that focus on diversity and globalization, and will also feature three zumba sessions, on Monday, Nov. 17 from 5 to p.m. in the Williams Center.
Additionally, the Office of International Education will be sponsoring a multifaceted event on Tuesday, Nov. 18 from noon to 2 p.m. in the Williams Center Multipurpose Room. Part study broad photo contest, part international photo booth, and part Passport Day, the event will feature expressions of international education by the students. Former study abroad students' will feature their photos and could win prizes for their artwork; members of Fredonia's campus can take part in the "Global Blue Devils" photo series, exhibiting the places they come from and the places they have been.
Other events taking place include Study Abroad Information Sessions, international film screenings, international career and opportunities workshops, and a global coffee hour.
All events are sponsored by the Office of International Education, in conjunction with the Office of Campus Life, the Educational Development Program, the Center for Multicultural Affairs, the Career Development Office, the U.S. Postal Service, International Student Services, the Study Abroad program and Amnesty International.
