In July, Randolph Hohle, assistant professor of Sociology, saw his book published, “Race and the Origins of American Neoliberalism.” The book describes the creation of American Neoliberalism and explores the four pillars of neoliberal policy: austerity, privatization, deregulation and tax cuts. The author also explains how race created the pretext for the activation of neoliberal policy.
The book is available through online independent book stores and big box retailers.
Prior to writing the book, in January 2013, Dr. Hohle wrote, “Black Citizenship and Authenticity in the Civil Rights Movement.” From his research, he noticed a lot of similarities between Southern economic policy and present national economic policy. As a result of the publication, there was a large positive response and other scholars urged that he continue the project, which he did in writing the second book. Hohle also wrote the book because he was not pleased with the already existing explanations of how and why the U.S. made the neoliberal turn; and he also disagreed with the previous explanations of the resiliency of neoliberalism to regarding the financial collapse of 2008-2009.
