College Council Chairman Frank Pagano announced at its Sept. 28 meeting that Dr. Allen Koenig of R.H. Perry & Associates will provide executive search and recruiting services for the SUNY Fredonia Presidential Search process, now underway following the announcement of Dennis L. Hefner's intention to retire at the end of the 2011-12 academic year.

The firm will beon the SUNY Fredonia campus this week to conduct a pre-search study with various constituents. The study, which is an open process, will be conducted by Allen Koenig and Larry Christman. The purpose is to ascertain the qualifications expected of the next president and conditions and challenges that may impact his or her strategic planning and day-to-day duties.

An open, one-hour session with them is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 12, from 4:15 to 5:15 p.m., in Diers Recital Hall.  Go to presidential search "Update" webpage for full schedule of meetings>>

The College Council reviewed proposals from six executive search firms, before selecting R.H. Perry & Associates, which specializes in leadership searches for higher education. 

Koenig, former president of Chapman University in Orange, Calif., and Emerson College in Boston, Mass., is senior partner at the search firm and has led more than 200 presidential and interim CEO searches. He co-founded the Registry for College and University Presidents, which is the nation’s premier organization for placing interim presidents and senior officers.

He is co-author of a chapter in Presidential Transition in Higher Education – Managing Leadership Change (2004, Johns Hopkins University Press). He co-edited one of the first books on educational television in the United States, published by the University of Wisconsin Press. The Press also published his edited book on labor relations in radio and television – the first such book in North America.

Koenig was named “One of Ten Outstanding Citizens of Massachusetts." The American Arbitration Association honored him for his book on labor relations in the broadcasting industry. He also received a Presidential Emmy from the Boston/New England chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, and he has been cited in Who’s Who in America since the early 1980s. He has been appointed a director on corporate boards in the banking and higher education software industries as well as a trustee and on several college and university governing boards.

Born in Los Angeles, California, Koenig received degrees in communication/mass communication from the University of Southern California (B.A.), Stanford University (M.A.), and Northwestern University (Ph.D.).

In the search for SUNY Fredonia's next president, Koenig will assist the recently-named Presidential Search Committee, which consists of representatives from the complete spectrum of SUNY Fredonia constituencies.
