The Fredonia Technology Incubator is launching its second annual student business competition, with the opportunity for participants to submit a business proposal and compete for admittance into the FTI and other prizes.
The competition complements other student-based entrepreneurial initiatives in Western New York and is again being powered by AT&T. A kick-off event will be held in the Williams Center Multipurpose Room on Oct. 6 from 4 to 6 p.m. FTI business mentors, advisory board members, AT&T representatives, and entrepreneurs will be on hand to discuss ideas of students who attend. Refreshments will be provided.
The competition is open to Fredonia students from all academic disciplines. To register for the SBC Kick-Off Event, go to https://sbckickoff.eventbrite.com, although walk-ins are welcome. To apply for the SBC, visit www.fredonia.edu/incubator under the competition tab for more details. The application deadline is Feb. 17, 2017.
“We have very talented entrepreneurs at our university and this competition will provide our students with a direct pathway to starting a business,” said Chuck Cornell, incubator director. “This competition also will promote retention of talent in our community. I am grateful to AT&T for their continued support of this endeavor and for the company’s continued involvement in spurring and fostering local innovation and entrepreneurism on our campus and across the region.”
"AT&T is proud to once again collaborate with Fredonia State University of New York and its tech incubator in this unique competition, providing young entrepreneurs the opportunity to hone their products and services with support and guidance from academics, seasoned mentors and business leaders," said Marissa Shorenstein, New York president, AT&T. "AT&T's ongoing commitment to support local innovation in Western New York grows out of our company's multibillion dollar nationwide investment in the mobile communications network of the future and our dedication to foster local innovation across the state that could positively impact communities and strengthen the local economy."
The competition is designed to help student entrepreneurs present business ideas, develop proposals, receive guidance from experienced business mentors and launch their businesses. The winner of the competition earns an office at the incubator for one year, including access to all FTI programming and services. The winner and second and third place finishers will also receive prizes.
