Internships at SUNY Fredonia are now managed by the Career Development Office, where professional counselors are helping students identify internship opportunities related to their educational and career goals. Students can see career counselors to receive help in applying for internships, developing resumes, writing cover letters, and preparing for interviews.
Tracy Collingwood of Jamestown, N.Y., has been named Internship Coordinator. She is responsible for all phases of the internship process and works with student interns, faculty sponsors and agency supervisors, both on and off campus. As coordinator, she oversees the development of individual Learning Contracts, which are required agreements between the university and agencies hiring the interns. She holds a master's degree in Higher Education Administration with a concentration in College Student Services and Development from SUNY at Buffalo.
“Gaining work experience while in college can be an important part of a student's career development,” Ms. Collingwood said. ”Internships provide an opportunity to apply academic concepts in practice, and to explore possible future occupations.”
To be considered for an internship, a student must have a minimum grade point average of 2.0 and have completed 30 credit hours of course work. The Career Development Office is located on the second floor of Gregory Hall, 716-673-3327.
