Fredonia School of Music faculty members Joe Dan Harper, tenor, and pianist Dr. Anne Kissel will present Franz Schubert’s celebrated song collection, “Winterreise,” on Sunday, Feb. 22 at 8 p.m. in Rosch Recital Hall. (This performance has been rescheduled from an original date of Monday, Feb. 9.)
The performance is free and the public is invited to attend.
A perennial favorite of the husband and wife duo, the tale of “Winterreise,” denoting “Winter’s Journey,” highlights Schubert’s great German Romantic song repertoire. “Winterreise” tells the story of a heartbroken wanderer whose unrequited love propels him on a journey through a frigid psychological landscape of deception and loss.
While performing throughout the United States and Germany, the Kissel-Harper duo appeared on National Public Radio Live Performances with Richard Knisely, performed in master classes at Kansas State University, Tufts University and at Texas Tech University’s recent conference celebrating the late English composer Benjamin Britten’s 100th birthday.
As co-founders and co-directors of the Boston-based Florestan Recital Project, they recently had the opportunity to complete a prestigious three-year residency at Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pa.
Harper, associate professor of voice, and Kissel, coordinator of Collaborative Piano at Fredonia, have premiered original works by composers Daniel Pinkham, Ned Rorem, Libby Larsen and Stephen Paulus.
