Did mom and dad ever have “the talk” with you? Well, don’t worry — this one will be far more enjoyable!

Students enrolled in English 399 — a.k.a., Nature Writing — will celebrate Earth Week at SUNY Fredonia with a special event titled, “The Alphabet of the Birds, Bees, and Trees: A Celebration of Student Nature Writing.” The event, which is also part of the 2010-11 Convocation theme, “Faces and Phases of Creativity,” takes place Tuesday, April 19 at 2 p.m. in the Reed Library Japanese Garden Room, and is free and open to the public.

Each student enrolled in the class, led by Professor Aimee Nezhukumatathil will showcase what they have learned by presenting original photographs, essays and poems featuring the varied seasonal landscapes of Western New York.

Nature Writing is an upper-level English class designed for students to express their thoughts and write about the natural world. Students read, discuss and practice different kinds of environmental writing. The course introduces students to a range of modes of writing in environmental studies, with a focus on poetry and creative, non-fiction essays.

Students involved in this year’s event include Kim Brandl, Lindsay Buscemi, Julia Cross, Lacey Daley, Julie Denero, Alex Duringer, Molly Gutschow, Jim Hill, Ingo Hutzenlaub, Shannon McGovern, Aaron Morales, Emily Paccia, Jennifer Peters, Fred Polone, Michael Reeves, Stephanie Roosa, Allyson Rumizen, Tomi Stratton and Erin Taylor.
