Ciara O’Neill-Mendoza '08, the October 2008 Student of the Month |
The Department of Resident Life’s Student of the Month Committee members Cate Shrum, Jennifer Cinque and Allison Adams chose O’Neill-Mendoza following her nomination by Dr. David Herman, Vice President for Student Affairs.
Student of the Month recipients are chosen based on their campus and community involvement. O’Neill-Mendoza is a senior vocal major and a recipient of the Keeper of the Dream scholarship, awarded to students who display excellent academics from underrepresented groups. In addition to her current position as president of the Student Opera Theater Association (SOTA), O’Neill-Mendoza has also served as president of Boosting Alcohol Consciousness Concerning the Health of University Students (BACCHUS), a campus group that uses awareness programs and education to discourage alcohol use by students and promote responsible drinking behavior. She was also a Resident Assistant for two semesters. She will perform her senior recital in spring 2009 and is scheduled to graduate in May. Her post-graduation plans include graduate school.
The Student of the Month program was implemented during the spring semester in 2003 to recognize SUNY Fredonia students who are well-rounded, excel in their academics and contribute positively to the campus and community. The Student of the Month committee is composed of residence hall directors and faculty members.
