SUNY Fredonia School of Music faculty member Roderick MacDonald will release his newest recording as conductor of a European orchestra. Recorded in Germany, “PicCollage” is a performance of McKimm’s Concerto for piccolo flute and orchestra. The CD is set to be released on April 15.

Mr. MacDonald conducted the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra in the production of the CD. The collection includes a presentation of some previously unrecorded solo piccolo works of new and old music for orchestra. After its release, the album will be available online for purchase, through MacDonald on campus or acquired on Amazon.com and similar outlets.

MacDonald, a professional trumpet player, excels as a soloist and orchestral conductor. He has a repertoire of performances and has enjoyed considerable success throughout Germany and the United States. He completed his formal conducting studies at the Leipzig Conservatory, earning a Masters of Music in Orchestral Conducting (1994). In 2001, MacDonald received the Honorary Title of "Kammermusiker" from the city of Leipzig. Since his return to the U.S., he has been a finalist for the position of Assistant Conductor of the New York Philharmonic (1997) and Associate Conductor of the Dallas Symphony (2005). “PicCollage,” his recording project with flautist Gudrun Hinze of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, is his most recent work.
