Fredonia senior Chelsea Newton's documentary, “Bridges” earned second place, surpassing over 250 contestants, at the SUNYWide Film Festival (SWFF) on Friday, April 24.
The 15 minute documentary focuses on individuals who have been suffering from brain injury and their long road to recovery in the rehabilitation center known as Bridges.
SWFF launched in 2009 as an opportunity to showcase the cinematic work of students and faculty from the SUNY system. The festival is a result of the vision and dedication of Phil Hastings, associate professor of film and video arts at Fredonia, who founded the festival and grew it to become one of the top student film festivals in the Northeast. Over the first five festivals, more than 400 students have submitted films and videos to the competition. Selected films and videos have gone on to garner awards at other regional and national film festivals.
