Steve Lippia is a singer’s singer. He has quickly become one of the country’s most prominent vocalists and interpreters of classic pop music. His show, “Simply Sinatra,” is a rich, powerful celebration of some of the greatest music this country has known.
Rockefeller Arts Center is pleased to present “Simply Sinatra” on Friday, Sept. 25 at 8 p.m. in King Concert Hall on the campus of the State University of New York at Fredonia. The concert is the opening event in the 2009-10 DFT Communications Pops Series.
With a hot, driving band behind him, Lippia moves from crisp, popping swing tunes to lush, poignant ballads with equanimity. He possesses great stage presence, with a charm and ease that immediately endears him to audiences.
Rockefeller Arts Center Director Jefferson Westwood described Lippia as a “totally engaging performer.”
“I got to see Steve Lippia perform a year ago at a regional booking conference in Kansas City,” Mr. Westwood said. “He sings all the Sinatra standards using the same arrangements as Sinatra did. He does not try to impersonate or imitate Sinatra in any way, but he sure does sound a lot like him. He’s his own person and own performer. He’s really at ease with the material and I think we’re all in for a really good time.”
Lippia has headlined in highly successful, extended engagements at the Rio Suites Hotel and in Las Vegas and Resorts Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, where audiences lined up more than two hours before show time to vie for seating. He has performed in multiple engagements for Hilton Atlantic City and Casino Windsor, among others. Lippia’s television appearances include “Extra,” FOX’s “Good Day New York,” and CNN’s “Showbiz Today.”
His discography includes the acclaimed “Steve Lippia” CD that was recorded at Warner Brothers’ in Los Angeles with a 41-piece symphony and a collection of some of his live performances entitled “Steve Lippia Live.” Earlier this year, he released “Steve Lippia in Concert.” The CD features Lippia backed by a 16-piece big band and contains classic Sinatra tunes including “My Way” and “New York, New York.”
