The second week of February at the School of Music will feature several events showcasing the talents of Fredonia faculty members and guests artists of international acclaim.
All events are free and open to the public.
On Tuesday, Feb. 10, Ian Clarke, an award-winning flautist and composer based in London, will spend a full day on campus. At 2 p.m., Mr. Clarke will give a talk in Rosch Recital Hall on creativity and, at 3 p.m., conduct a flute master class with members of the Fredonia flute studio in Mason Hall Room 1075. His visit concludes with an 8 p.m. recital at Rosch.
Clarke has been a featured guest soloist and teacher at major conventions and events in the United States, Canada, Italy, Brazil, France, Iceland, Slovenia and Hungary and has conducted master classes at the Royal Academy of Music, Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Royal Scottish Academy, Royal Northern, Royal Welsh and Trinity College of Music.
On Friday, Feb. 13, at 8 p.m., in Rosch Recital Hall, faculty members and clarinetists Andrew Seigel, I-Fei Chen and Elizabeth Widzinski, will join bassoonist Laura Koepke and pianist James Welch for an evening of chamber music.
On Saturday, Feb. 15, saxophonist extraordinaire Hans de Jong will present an eclectic program at 8 p.m. in Rosch Recital Hall. De Jong, known for amazing interpretative skills and a vibrato perfectly suited to the music, is a professor of classical saxophone and chamber music at the Royal Conservatoire in Antwerp, Belgium, and artistic director and conductor of the Royal Antwerp Saxophone Project.
