Fredonia, N.Y. — April 14, 2008 — All area residents will have the opportunity to clear out unwanted household electric items during SUNY Fredonia’s Earth Week Campus and Community Household Electric Recycling Day on Saturday, April 26.
This free event that is open to the public is co-sponsored by the Cornell Cooperative Extension, and will take place from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the SUNY Fredonia park-and-ride area adjacent to the services complex on the campus’ Ring Road. People disposing of items should put them in the trunk or bed of their car or truck, and the items will be removed by volunteers from university athletic teams.
The collection day has been registered as an official event in the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA’s) Great Lakes 2008 Earth Day Challenge.
Items to be accepted include: computers, monitors, terminals, laptops, hard drives, keyboards, computer mice, cables, printers, modems, speakers, televisions VCRs, DVD players, electronic games, cameras and related equipment, radios, electric razors, cell phones, FAX machines, typewriters, batteries and power tools. The vendor collecting the items on-site will be Electric Recycling Technologies of Buffalo, who will also train the volunteers.
SUNY Fredonia Director of Building Services and Grounds Kevin P. Cloos noted, “Fredonia’s Sustainability Committee is working to raise awareness and educate people both on campus and in the surrounding area that recycling and conservation are critical to the future. The household electronics recycling event is one of the many events scheduled during Earth Week on campus to encourage everyone to do their share to help protect the environment.”
