High school juniors wishing to “jump start” their college education are invited, together with their parents, to attend an informational meeting at SUNY Fredonia to learn about the school’s 3-1-3 program. The session will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 3 at 7 p.m. in 202 McEwen Hall.
Students accepted into the 3-1-3 program attend college classes during their senior year in high school and can also receive college credit for a fourth consecutive year of math or science taken at their high school.
“The benefit of 3-1-3 is having the student come on the campus, interact with professors, and get the experience of sitting in the classroom with other students,” said Liza Smith, director of the SUNY Fredonia Learning Center. “The expectation of a 3-1-3 student is the same as any student enrolled in the class.”
In addition to the college experience, money can be saved on college tuition because these students earn college credit for certain high school courses which can be applied towards their degree. Many 3-1-3 students finish their degree in three years, either at SUNY Fredonia or another institution of higher learning.
Prospective students go through the standard admissions process that all students do at SUNY Fredonia. The university works closely with the student’s high school guidance counselor to ensure that college class attendance does not impact their high school class schedule or participation in sports and other extra-curricular activities.
Representatives from the university’s Admissions and Enrollment Services offices will be on hand at the informational meeting to answer any questions students or parents may have.
