Student Jilda Falco warms up at the new Tim Hortons kiosk in Thompson Hall.

The Faculty Student Association (FSA) is pleased to announce that it has signed an agreement with Tim Hortons for a self-service coffee kiosk, now open in Thompson Hall.

This kiosk, located on the first floor across from the W101 lecture hall, is a component of a new service concept, FREDExpress, designed for “grab-and-go” service.

It provides Thompson Hall’s students, faculty and staff with a long sought-after, on-site dining option, which is especially beneficial during inclement weather.

In addition, FSA has signed a Letter of Intent with Tim Hortons for a proposed full-service franchise in the Williams Center, which will be operated by the FSA and will open following the completion of the Williams Center Rehabilitation Project in the fall of 2012. FSA has worked with the division of Student Affairs and the department of Campus Life to develop a unique Williams Center concept, which will include roughly 1,000 square feet of seating and multipurpose use space, as well as an outside patio and barbeque pavilion area, all of which will enhance the dining options and ambiance of the newly renovated student union.

“As always, the profits generated from this new franchise’s presence on campus will directly benefit the university by supporting numerous programs and capital investments,” said Chuck Notaro, ’68, associate vice president and executive director of FSA, which is entirely self-funded through the sale of its services and employs close to 200 staff and 300 students annually. “We’re also very proud to have been able to steadily increase our financial assistance to the university, particularly as New York State’s budget cuts to SUNY have continued.”

Notaro noted that FSA is especially pleased to provide the campus with these additional options, which add to the existing breadth of foodservice choices, which include three full-service dining halls, the Starbucks at University Commons, and several Buster Brown Bean Company locations across campus.

“The goal continues to be to make sure the campus community has an opportunity to obtain high-quality food and beverage products in a variety of formats, conveniences and services,” Notaro added.
