Tina Hastings has been named art gallery administrator at the State University of New York at Fredonia, effective Sept. 1.
Ms. Hastings will oversee the 2,000 square-foot Art Gallery, located at in the Michael C. Rockefeller Arts Center at street level, which displays works of professional artists and hosts faculty and student showcases, and the smaller Emmitt Christian Gallery, located on the second floor, which is devoted exclusively to the display of student works.
A native of Ohio, Ms. Hastings earned a master’s degree in public administration with a focus in museum studies from Southern Illinois University, where she also served as assistant museum curator.
“I like the interdisciplinary aspect of art,” Ms. Hastings said. “You can tie art together with science and history. Being able to bring other areas of study together with art is something that interests me.”
Ms. Hastings’ duties will also include supervising practicum students from the Department of Visual Arts and New Media.
“I think I’ll enjoy working with the students the most,” Ms. Hastings said. “I’m looking forward to helping them explore gallery work. I want the students to have a hands-on experience so they can see what interests them the most.”
Ms. Hastings said her goals include seeing the galleries at Rockefeller Arts Center utilized to their full potential.
“While the focus is on the students, we want to do things that will appeal to the community as a whole,” Hastings said.
Currently, the Art Gallery is hosting the exhibit “Lines Not Drawn: Contemporary photographic depictions, fictions and contradictions.” The exhibit runs through Sept. 30.
Gallery hours are 2 to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 2 to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday.
