Broadway will come to the School of Music at Fredonia when Judy Kuhn, a three-time Tony Award nominee, conducts a master class with seven students majoring in either Musical Theatre or Vocal Performance on Saturday, Feb. 28, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Mason Hall Room 1080.
Kuhn has been praised by The New York Times’ critic Stephen Holden as a “rare singer who can negotiate tricky folk pop lyrics, art songs and popular standards with equal authority and insight.” She’s known for her work on Broadway in the Roundabout Theatre Company’s hit revival of “She Loves Me,” the American premieres of “Chess” and “Les Miserables” and “Rags.”
More recently, she returned to “American Songbook,” celebrating the work of Richard Rodgers, Mary Rodgers and Adam Guettel, at the Lincoln Center’s Appel Room. She will reprise her award-winning role of Lucille Lortel in “Fun Home” on Broadway this spring.

Musical Theatre, student of Dr. Angela Haas; Shannon Cunningham from Mastic, senior, B.F.A. Musical Theatre, student of Laurie Tramuta; Michael Hawk from Fredonia, junior, Mus.B. Vocal Performance, student of Daniel Ihasz ; Alexander Kosmowski from Amherst, N.Y., senior, B.F.A. Musical Theatre, student of Joe Dan Harper; Kiernan Matts from Hamilton, N.J., junior, B.F.A. Musical Theatre, student of Ms. Tramuta; Mark Montondo, Williamson, senior, BFA Musical Theatre, student of Mr. Ihasz; and Michaela Tramuta, from Fredonia, freshman, B.F.A., Musical Theatre, student of Dr. Haas.
James Welch, faculty member of the School of Music, will provide accompaniment.
Kuhn’s master class, which is free and open to the public, is being arranged through New Buffalo Productions, with a grant from the Fredonia College Foundation’s Carnahan-Jackson Fund for the Humanities. Coordinating the master class are Paul Mockovak of the Department of Theatre and Dance and Mr. Welch.
