SUNY Fredonia’s Communication Department will highlight its senior capstone course in video production, Fiction II, with the screening of three projects produced solely by the students in the class. The seniors were required to break into groups and each produce a 30-minute film over the course of the spring semester. One of the projects, “Right Side Up,” will be shown on Thursday, May 12 at 7 p.m. in McEwen 209. It is free and everyone is invited.
The course in fiction videos, taught by Jane Jackson, includes pre-production, production, post-production and distribution of longer fiction videos. Emphasis is on single camera, multiple take methods. Students all execute one or more production roles for a complex, digital video with high production values.
“Right Side Up” was filmed on the Canon 7D SLR camera, which is quickly becoming an industry standard in low budget film making. The film tells the story of a young man, Nathan, whose world is turned upside down after an accident. He must find a way to live “right side up.”
The film stars Nicholas Gerwitz, Jessica Sabatini and Jennifer Lefsyk. It was directed by Cory Greiner, produced by Mary Hilton, co-produced by Anthony M. Marotta and edited by Byron Abt. The Director of Photography is Justin Kaplan and the Assistant Director is Phillip Ginley.
